Topic: Question about code igniter

I'm learning PHP and i'm looking into the suggested framework of using codeigniter.  What is a good book for a beginner who wants to set it up and design a practice site from a to b  to learn with?  Also are there any places for really good coded templates for church site design?

Thanks!!!

Re: Question about code igniter

Not sure about any books, but I do know that CodeIgniter has several video tutorials that I found very helpful. Plus, the documentation is topnotch.

I feel a nostalgia for an age yet to come...

Re: Question about code igniter

There is a book on CodeIgniter. Book review here:

Re: Question about code igniter

Thanks once again to everyone!!!  You guys are great for giving very helpful advice!  I have been on a lot of forums;  but i have to say that this one beats them all!  It seems that the other forums were too busy trying to sell software or speaking over a beginners abilities to learn!  I have to ask Nathan something though!  I know that you have done a great looking site with textpattern (sonspring.com).  Which framework do you prefer to use and which framework for me considering that i'm a beginner would you recommend that i pursue and learn?  It seems that whatever framework  i learn;  that for me atleast,  there is a sharp learning curve so i would like to spend my time in something that is going to be around for awhile.

Also do you (still asking Nathan) whtat do you think about the 960 grid designing?

Thanks once again!!!

Re: Question about code igniter

Dwayne: As far as PHP frameworks go, I'd recommend CodeIgniter.

Though, I have friends who swear by CakePHP, and have largely heard good things about it.

Textpattern is more of a content management system, and is not a "framework" per-say.

Regarding 960 grid designing -- I like it. Which is why I made http://960.gs/ smile

Re: Question about code igniter

Thanks Nathan!  Since i'm learning anyway;  i think i'm going to pursue the 960gs design! I like what i have seen and read about it!  I appreciate your help!
