Topic: Should I work on a spiritualy oriented site that is NOT Christian?

Hey all,
As a freelance web developer, every now and then someone approaches me asking to help them code or design their site. Sometimes it is for a church denomination that I honestly believe does not preach the true Gospel, and more often it is a "new-agey" (I'm pretty sure I made that word up) teacher/religion. Should I just ignore their e-mails, just say no, or what? I would appreciate your input and would like to know what you do.
Thanks!

If you're not comfy with it - turn it down, but at least tell them.  That's what I've done - at least for the inquiries that seemed legitimate/appropriate.

I like Mikes simple answer. Bypasses the many issues one might consider and gets to the bottom line. We've talked about this around here somewhere (not sure where).

There is something about business that is business... if I sell a goat I don't know what the buyers are going to do with it. I'm not a moral accomplice if they decide to sacrifice it to the devil or something shabby. But thats is about goods, and not knowing.

Making a web site, that's trickier, because if you're good you take on the persona of that organization while you design and present their content as best as you can. Thats a bit more personal than selling a goat. Also, are they a client you'd want to link to your site to, and feature in your gallery?

If you're going to commit time effort and creativity, you need to have clients you can really pitch into and they need developers who will be all about their project.

All that said, Mike said it best.

Yep I agree. I wouldn't design a site for something I was truly against and something that God is definitely against.

I've had to write a couple of 'thanks for your interest, but no' emails.  It's certainly worth explaining 'why no'.

We were once approached by a Muslim organization about building a site for them and we respectfully declined.  As Leovenous stated, we tend to be very involved in the sites we build and could not fathom promoting Islam.  They appreciated our candor.

That's my 2 cents :^{>
