Topic: Strange IE7 Rendering Problem

Hi guys, this is only happening in IE7 and it's got me all confused. I have a demo site uploaded here: http://www.montegraphics.com/computer_dust/20080326

When certain pages (Order and Cleaning Products) load in IE7, most of the time the area below the navigation up until the bottom of the window height appears white. Scrolling down reveals that the page continues to render where it would have. Refreshing or clicking on these links again often fixes the problem, but there's no real method or certain number of times I must refresh in order to get it to display properly. This happens both off and online with IE7, and not at all with IE6 or FF. Here's an image of the rendering problem: http://www.ben-carlson.com/images/109.jpg

Has anyone experienced this? As far as I can tell the code on the pages are identical, so I have no clue.

Re: Strange IE7 Rendering Problem

Looking at it yet again makes me think that it's a problem with my image replacement method:

<h1 id="header" title="Computer Dust Solutions: Dust Covers and Filters">
	<span><a href="index.html"></a></span>Computer Dust Solutions
</h1>
#header {
	margin: 0 auto 0 auto;
	width: 800px;
	height: 90px;
	position: relative;
}

#header span {
	background: white url(images/computer_dust_logo.jpg) top left no-repeat;
	position: absolute;
	width: 100%;
	height: 100%;
}

#header span a {
	position: absolute;
	width: 100%;
	height: 100%;
}

If this is what you guys think it is too, what image replacement technique do you use? I've looked at all of these http://www.mezzoblue.com/tests/revised- … placement/ but would just like a suggestions which one works the best. Then again, if it's only doing this on some pages, why would it be the image replacement technique.. bleh.

Re: Strange IE7 Rendering Problem

Chris Harrison helped me out, seems I just needed to specify the height and width of the header element instead of using 100%. No clue why it would only happen on those pages, but alas, I believe it's working now. Thanks Chris!

You're very welcome Ben smile Glad I could be of service.

Re: Strange IE7 Rendering Problem

I am having issues with ie7 as well. The images on the home page of the site I just designed aren't rendering properly in ie7. This seems to be only on the home page. The images will partly load or not at all. My XHTML and CSS validate. I am not sure where I went wrong. This is my first site, so any guidance would be great. TIA.

Also, in ie7 and ie6 the "rates" page of the site renders strange. The main "container" div gets pushed out to the left. I can't figure that out either.

The site renders great in Firefox, Opera, Safari, and Camino, as far as I have tried. Just ie giving me trouble.
