Topic: Do you Believe?

Hi I am trying to get people involved in this sudden initiative called " I Believe". Basicaly you put a banner image on your site that says something like “YOUR BLOG NAME Believes

Re: Do you Believe?

Hi.  I liked that idea.  Sort of the "Too Cool for IE" banner initiative going around.  I took your idea and created a banner for my site, but I just put "I Believe" and linked it to one of the suggested sites.   Here's what it looks like..

You can see it on my web site BC.net

Re: Do you Believe?

thats fantastic, how do you get it in the corner? Is it a positioned layer?

Re: Do you Believe?

I found this page helpful.  I'm not sure if there are other or better ways of getting the same effect though.

I really dig this idea.  I'd love to see an organized campaign with an official banner and a website.  I'd hesitate to do anything that seemed to commercialize an ancient truth, but it could be very cool.

Re: Do you Believe?

pixeljuggler:  Here is the CSS/HTML I use and my idea originated from this site TooCoolForIE :

Add to CSS:

 a#ibelieve {
  position: fixed;
  right: 0;
  bottom: 0;
  display: block;
  height: 80px;
  width: 80px;
  background: url(/images/57.png) bottom right no-repeat;
  text-indent: -999em;
  text-decoration: none;
  }

Add the HTML:

Add the following to the beginning of your HTML just below the <body> tag:

<a id="ibelieve" href="http://www.whatever.urlyouchoose">I Believe</a>

Re: Do you Believe?

Thanks for the information. Prehaps it would be a good idea to take it to the next level. Build an organized campaign and a website. The whole idea would to point away from the commercial Christmas and to Jesus instead. What do you think?

Re: Do you Believe?

@pixeljuggler: I'd be interested.  A static page with the "The whole idea would to point away from the commercial Christmas and to Jesus instead." premise. I have plenty of Hosting space and bandwidth.  DreamHost rocks!!

Re: Do you Believe?

@pixeljuggler: I'm all over it.  I wouldn't be able to provide much in the way of hosting or technical support but I'd totally be there to chear you on.

By the way: I really dig the whole @whoever thing.  I'd never seen that before but it's a great idea.

You wanna get nuts?  Let's get nuts!

Re: Do you Believe?

@pixeljuggler: ..Away from the commercial Christmas ... is a good premise, but I was also thinking that it could be a statement as well.  A statement that "I Believe".  "I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins."  "You've come to the site of someone who believes"  Along those lines.  I could be deviating from your original idea.  Just putting that idea out there.

@granata: smile  I learned it from IRC chats and other forums.

Re: Do you Believe?

@onetruth: I have been picturing this thing more along the lines you have.  A statement for all seasons.

You wanna get nuts?  Let's get nuts!

Re: Do you Believe?

@onetruth dream host does rock I am with them too and have a lot of lazy bandwidth. @everyone, Ok so it sound like you are all on board, great. It doesn’t just need someone to host it but we will need to decide on a single look of banners.

So I suggest that we come up with a few concepts for the banner.

And then come up with some concepts for the web page that supports the banner and plays it off. A good example being browse happy http://browsehappy.com/

We also need to build a list of sites that people can link to.

and decide the easiest way for people to copy and past to the code and change the link to what they want.

Re: Do you Believe?

@everyone A statement that "I Believe" would be better. I was thinking it would be nice to get it launched on internet evangelisum day, what do you think?

Re: Do you Believe?

@pixeljuggler: I like where this is going.  There's an internet evangelism day?  When is that?

You wanna get nuts?  Let's get nuts!

Re: Do you Believe?

@ All: Sounds like Evangelism Day would be a great time to launch "I Believe".   I guess we should decide how we're going to coordinate our efforts etc.

Re: Do you Believe?

Internet evangelism day is on 7th May 2006 so we have a fair amount of time. Is there a particular task or job that you feel more comfortable with doing than others? I personally will not be great at producing text content for the site, as I have a bad spelling habit. It would be good to outline your stregnths and weaknesses for this kind of project, and then we can split the tasks up between us.

I am going to look out for a domain name to buy too.

Re: Do you Believe?

@ All, I have created a coordination page using basecamp, it rocks and is ideal for organising. I do need to add you to the project though, so if you email me with these following details then you will be able to log in.
First Name:
Last Name:
Email Address:
User Name:
Password:

Use the email link next to the post or use the contact form on blogministry.com about page.

Re: Do you Believe?

Aah yes. smile Basecamp rocks.   Sending my info...    BTW, I was looking at domain names as well. tongue

Re: Do you Believe?

You guys rock.  Having spent the last hour staring at a page of lorem ipsum on my fresh install of wordpress 2.0 on my soon to launch site "Church 2.0" , trying to come up with a quippy slogan, I decided to give myself a break and check out the Godbit forums.  (wow, that's one HUGE run-on sentence).

As I think about "what is Church 2.0?".  I realize this is it right here.  Yes, there is the local component of leveraging web tech for individual churches, but this is also part of it.  A collaboration of Christians, on different continents, using web technology to share HIS message..simply.

Browsehappy is a good example and I like there are profiles on there.  Should we have profiles including where people answer a "believe" question... "Why do you believe?", though I dont' like "why".  Perhaps "What is it like to believe?"..yes, much better.  Because isn't that the question, not why or how, but really, what is it like to know Him personally.

Though I know the mention was to launch on IED, what about doing pre-launch by releasing believer profiles leading up to internet evangelism day, including podcasts of them. Perhaps interview style.  Just a few thoughts. I got a million more. haha.

update: i decided on "Engaging The Web Generation" for my quippy slogan.  Also added an "I Believe" ribbon to the site.  which is really about all I've accomplished on it.

Re: Do you Believe?

@ church2 Fantastic join the fray...
@ all, A thought just struck me, how many people do you think would be a good idea to include in the behind the scenes working of the project, too many would just be unmanagable. Though I am sure there will be other ways for people to get involved, as stated above through little "ibelive" testimonies. Great idea.

Re: Do you Believe?

Still getting to grips with basecamp I have now set the permissions for the project, sorry church2 I don’t think you were able to access it, but you should be able to now. Messages are already being posted, that is good. I have set a target; a complete iBelive Project team by the end of this month (31st of January 2006). We are probably looking for about two more people. Skills currently needed are good copywriting and we may need the use of a JavaScript wiz kid, so if you think that is you sign up.

Re: Do you Believe?

I did this last year with a banner that read "I'm a FUNdamentalist!" I posted instructions here... http://www.10ft2ft.com/?p=318

Re: Do you Believe?

Ok we have copy writing skills smile. I have been thinking it wouldn't hurt to have someone else who is good a editing the odd pixel or two, any takers?

Re: Do you Believe?

@pixeljuggler... what kind of work do you need still on this project? I've been thinking more about it and I'd love to help!

Re: Do you Believe?

@Natalie we haven’t begun any work as of yet, we are just settling in to Basecamp and revealing our skill areas. There is a very high possibility that we will be using Wordpress to manage the content on the web site, just like Browse Happy. So it would be really valuable to have another person who has had some experience designing themes for it. So if you think you are up for the task hop on board. It would also be great to have some female intuition involved in the project so far we are all blokes.

I just remembered: Wordpress is browse happy’s sponsor, so it may not be built on the blogging application, just correct my self.

Re: Do you Believe?

Sounds good. I like blokes. I've also designed 90% of my blog themes for Wordpress clients, so I'm pretty familiar there. Whatever you need, let me know. I'll email you with my info for basecamp!
