If you have access to the source files you can load the movie (swf) first and set a listener for the endFrame. Upon the application reaching that point you can instantiate your gallery.

Yeah I figured. I wonder if they are going to keep their fckeditor free

I wouldn't mind being invited.

Working on design and thanks to Nathan on creating the 960 grid to help us non-designers with a template. I have this design that I am working on and I am wondering if I am following the grid correctly with the menu on top:

Site with no grid: http://www.helmutgranda.com/godbit/hg_n … nogrid.png

Site with grid: http://www.helmutgranda.com/godbit/hg_n … e_grid.png

You will notice the menu on the top right side (home, blog, services...) it does not follow the grid structure in regards to alignment for each individual element but it does follow the alignment as an overall element, is that the correct way to do it?

Also if you notice 3 boxes under the main area, the 2 on the left are slightly smaller than the one of the left, that is because I am following the grid. I was wondering if that is acceptable or if I need to choose a different grid to fit a 3 column site.

Any feedback welcome.

//fixed the first link.

Is it going to happen this year? Anyone attending SXSW 09?

Since this is for an Airport and they are asking you for a SWF most likely they want you to put all the resources in the SWF (text/animation/graphics) so I would not recommend something that requires XML or external JPGs, and they most likely not worry about file size since they wont be streaming the file but rather just upload it to the machine that will be serving it.

If it is a slideshow you can make it really easy without having to spend any money at all and it will take you just long enough to import the images and make the animations.

1. import the images to the library or stage
2. place an image on the stage (delete everything els you have)
3. extend the timeline some frames to create the first "slide"
4. 10 frames(or some reasonable number of frames before the next "slide" will come up) create a key frame (F6)
5. on the last frame create another key frame.
6. set the alpha of the image to 0.
7. under that layer add a new image that you imported (this will be your next "slide")
8. create a key frame for that specific image at the same position of step #4.
9. set the alpha of the new "slide" to 0 and then on the same frame that the layer above will fade to 0 create a new key frame (F6) and set the alpha to 100 (or 1 if you are using Flash 10/CS4).
10. repeat step 3 until you finish.

I should create a video of this, would be a lot easier to see than read smile

video1button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, vid1);
video2button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, vid2);
video3button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, vid3);

function vid1(e:Event):void{
yourImage.visible = false;
vidPlayer.source = "/flash/shared/CMPS_FOX2.flv"
function vid2(e:Event):void{
yourImage.visible =false;
vidPlayer.source = "/flash/shared/CMPS_WXYZ.flv"
function vid3(e:Event):void{
yourImage.visible = false;
vidPlayer.source = "/flash/shared/CMPS_ABC7.flv"

You can go a lot more dynamic but this should get you started.

var speed:Number = 4;
var moveRight : Boolean;
var moveLeft : Boolean;
object_mc.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT) || moveRight ) {
this._x = this._x+speed;
} else if (Key.isDown(Key.LEFT || moveLeft)) {
this._x = this._x-speed;
} else {
this._x = this._x;

yourRightArrow.onRollOver = function() {
moveRight = true;

yourRightArrow.onRollOut = function() {
moveRight = false;

yourLeftArrow.onRollOver = function() {
moveLeft = true;

yourLeftArrow.onRollOut = function() {
moveLeft = false;

Hi Ryan,

I am curios to find out if you got a solution for your problem. What I was most intrigued about was in your comment "I'm looking for is a way for people to be able to scan checks directly into Donor Tools without having to scan the check" There has to be a scanner present correct?

Sorry I am trying to wrap my head around your request...

FYI, Flex is sold separately from the CS3 suites. Also I would consider my options, if you can charge 5x more but it is going to cost you 10x more (new software, learning curve and such) would it actually be lucrative? smile

You can also try to get a fulltime gig in a local business and that will allow your portfolio to grow. Given that your employer allows you to show the work on your portfolio. something that you must discuss when getting a job.

Hey Larry, are you still looking for a place to stay or were you able to find a hotel?

@Leovenous - The reason being of the img being inside the <p> is to allow the site to be updated as easy as possible and the people making the updates don't know html at all.

@jpc101 - Thanks for the suggestion, I will try to ask the people that are making the updates to keep the copy at the same height as the image but I will add a line of code in there in case the copy is too long to wrap around the image.

Thanks again and I will post a link once the site is competed.

Hi all,

I have a small question... I have a title, text and an image and they are supposed to look like this:

TITLE                | IMAGE|
TEXT                 |          |
TEXT                 |          |
TEXT                 |          |

easy huh? but this is my setting:

<div class="entrybody">
<h2><a href="#" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to Post">Post</a></h2>
<p><img src="image.jpg" alt="image.jpg" height="110" width="249">copy copy copy copy copy copy copy copy copy copy copy copy copy</p>

So I have made a set up like this:

.entrybody {
	height: 110px;//FIXED HEIGHT
	border: solid 1px #E5F0AE;
	background-color: #F9FBEE;
	padding: 15px;
	color: #2E5DCF;

.entrybody h2 a {
	float: left;
	text-align: left;
	font-size: 1.2em;
	color: #142656;
	text-decoration: none;
	padding: 0px;
	margin: 0px;

.entrybody p img {
	float: right;
	margin-top: -3.0em;

.entrybody p {
	float: right;

My problem is that the height of the content might vary, the images will always be the same height but the content could be different... I guess I can put a min-height in there but I was wondering if that was the "best" solution. Another thing to note is that this item is being handled by a CMS so at this time I dont have full control of when the image, header or content is listed

note: excuse my css but actionscript is my first language smile

Even as a developer you don't want to do everything from scratch... Imagine creating a wheel when you can just buy 4 to put them in your new car? Same goes for development, the idea in development is to create your items so flexible yet powerful so that they can be integrated in different situations with no or minimal modification. smile

I didnt get any issues in XP FF.. havent checked on the mac... but could you give us more descriptions on the error or screenshots?
