Yes, I'm not happy with the choice of "entire site in Flash," and I know many devices (including iPhone & iPad) don't play it.

Clover is supposed to automatically serve an HTML version, but I saw the ugly "looks like you don't have Flash 9. Download it. Or view the non-Flash version of this site."

Anyway, the church staff wants to design/build/edit/maintain the site without help, and so they can.

Looks like our church may go with Clover.

The site editor is in Flash and looks easy enough for our staff to manage.
They apparently publish a 'main page' in Flash, and an 'HTML/mobile' version as well.

Not ideal, but we'll see...

Sorry, I guess I don't understand.

Are you recommending WordPress with a theme from WooThemes?

Thanks.

So, what are we recommending for the church that wants:
* "a pretty design, with a stupid-simple easy-to-use back-end with blogs/podcasts/calendars/photo/video/etc.",
when I insist on:
* "web standards, accessible, mobile-friendly, etc."?

(Just for background, the current site has been running Textpattern for years,
which has apparently always been way too hard to use.)

My church is considering a one-stop design/hosting solution, and they asked me to look at these:

* http://www.mychurchwebsite.com/ Home page has 44 errors and requires Flash. Is not mobile-friendly.
* http://www.siteorganic.com/ Home page has 16 errors. Looks like inline JavaScript required.
* http://www.cloversites.com/ Not bad. Anyone know anything about it?

I had less than five minutes to review these, but only Clover seems to have heard of web standards.
Any thoughts?

A developer friend just recommended Digsby today.

I tend to resist new software applications quite hard; otherwise they tend multiply like rabbits, take up space and memory...

But the demo video looked rather impressive, useful and unobtrusive.
Has anyone tried it?

Excellent, thanks.

Any other podcasters out there?

The Conversation ( http://5by5.tv/conversation/7 ) is a podcast hosted by Dan Benjamin.

I was asked to be a guest speaker on patents, mobile devices, and some recent lawsuits between Apple, Nokia and HTC.

The episode title is “Patent Schmatent.” It seemed to go well, and I hope to record more sessions.

Thought you might be interested.

Hope the Godbit dinner was smashing good fun.

Yes, her birthday is around that time, and it was a good one.
Thanks for remembering!

I would love to see you all again, but won't be attending SXSW this year.
Take care and God bless all of you.

Are you connected to a good church who minister to you?
What is your mom's situation, relative to yours? Is she a believer?
How is your marriage?

Feel free to chat in IM sometime.

I like CutePDF.

It's not web-based, but is essentially a virtual printer emulator thing.

I think Google Sync is new and works directly, too.

As we spoke in direct messages, did you work this out?

Looking forward to seeing you again!

Will pray, and this is also going on with a guy who attends my Men's group bible study.

My only other recommendation is to realize that "love" is a verb, in addition to a feeling.
If you're not "feeling" the love, "do" love for a while.

I will be attending SXSW again this year, and TGIFridays has been a great location.
Am open to stay afterward, but can't make it Monday night.
(I'm flying home Monday afternoon, because Tuesday is Mrs.' birthday.)

I think Matt Smith (of SquaredEye) is attending also.

Matthew,
Interesting idea. I'm going again this year, and have a room reservation at the Hampton.

Sharing a room sounds great (bunking on the floor less so).
