Soul Purpose was found through a discussion on our forums and I was immediately impressed by the website. It was created by Catch Design, a talented New Zealand based web design firm who are also responsible for the design of The Street City Church. Though Street City probably deserves to be featured here on its own merit, Soul Purpose really stood out.
Code-wise this site does a wonderful job, sporting valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS. It’s built using Wordpress for the back end and shows you that this CMS is quite powerful and able to handle more than just blogs. Design-wise it is also pretty solid. From the worn/grunge edges to the use of sIFR for titles, from the nice navigation to the wonderful images used on the site, there isn’t much to dislike about this design. Since this site is based on their printed magazine, you know there is going to be lots of content and so it isn’t constrained by the usual 800px but instead goes for 1024px in width. Another nice addition is the “you are here” breadcrumbs that appear just above the content on the sub-pages.
My only dislike is that on some pages where there isn’t much content, the sidebar stretches a bit too far down. Also, I found the blinking “love music good” ad in the sidebar to be a little distracting. Other than that, a job well done by all involved. I found this site particularly useful since this site has so much content. On that note, I must say they have some really good stuff. Go read some of their articles.
